About an hour’s drive from Cape Town, the beautiful seaside village of Yzerfontein hugs an exceptionally scenic bend along the entrancing West Coast. Inspired by this gorgeous setting and the waves of creativity it inspires, Denise Levy and her team decided to take their sought-after Ginger & Lime cooking experiences on the road and make a full weekend of it.
“Ginger & Lime has always been an opportunity for me to share my passion for cooking and travel, as well as my knowledge about food and the many ways to prepare it in an easy and relaxed way. We always strive to offer an experience rather than a lesson. Sure, you’ll will get stuck in and prepare great food, you will get your hands dirty and cook with gusto, but you will also interact and connect with great new people from all sorts of backgrounds while you try amazing new dishes,” says Denise.
To ensure that her guests enjoy a seamlessly luxurious stay, Denise has collaborated with the Beach House Collection, a bespoke accommodation provider with three upmarket beach houses right on the seashore in Yzerfontein. Each villa has been decorated in an elegant and breezy style that is tailormade for sandy-toed, tousled-hair cooking adventures and plenty of chilling in between. Crisp white linen? Check! Salt-water breezes? Why, yes. Unending views over the mighty Atlantic? You betcha.
The weekend’s itinerary is everything you want in a relaxing, yet inspiring, getaway. Arrive on the Friday afternoon, settle into your room and then join the rest of the group for cocktails and a South African braai on the deck. Mingle, feast and enjoy a beautiful night’s sleep to the soundtrack of the soothing Atlantic tide.
The next morning brings a leisurely continental breakfast, some free time, and a partly demo-style lunch, followed by more time to nap, read, walk the beach or whatever strikes your fancy. Around sunset, there’s cocktails on the deck, followed by a full-blown, hands-on cooking experience. Join your fellow foodies in creating the evening’s feast, and then assemble along the long table to tuck into your creations paired with some of South Africa’s finest vintages.
When you next wake up in your room with its stunning ocean view, it will be time to head down to a beautiful brunch prepared by the Ginger & Lime team, and then make your way back home after a weekend of abundant food, laughter, and relaxation.
