The annual Design Indaba is like the prom for South Africa’s creatives. It’s a design conference where SA’s top makers and doers share ideas, attend workshops and get fired up to make bigger splashes and take ever more dazzling leaps to showcase their stuff to the local and international community. It’s simply electric.
Intended to showcase the future of creativity, Nightscape at Design Indaba 2018 extends the Indaba program and takes live performance to a new level of spectacle with the celebrated line-up of artists who are creating brand-new performances especially for the Nightscape stage. Think alternative theatre that straddles cosmic landscapes and fairy tale scenes with dancers in fantastical costumes, interspersed with electronic DJs, stilt-acrobats, jazz virtuosos, African beatsmiths and a collection of design-oriented films to round it all off. Yes, it’s going to break a few boundaries.
To fuel this creative fire, award-winning SA celeb chef Bertus Basson will be in attendance to wow event goers with some epic eats. Working in collaboration with culinary-minded experience designer Hannerie Visser of Studio H, Basson (the food pioneer behind Bertus Basson at Spice Route, Spek & Bone, The Deck at Hidden Valley, and Overture) will prepare a bespoke menu inspired by South African flavours. Think big bold flavours and design elements that will intrigue the mind.
“I can’t think of a more exciting time to be cooking South African food, exploring my own food heritage and sharing South Africa with the world,” Bertus enthuses. “I am constantly inspired by our rich past, exciting future and diverse gastronomical landscape, from bunny chow and melktert to pickled fish.”
Merging food and design into a unique experience of local flavours presented in a stimulating way, this progressive Chef’s Table is set to be a milestone event on the 2018 Cape Town culinary calendar.
