Dapper Coffee Co. on the corner of Bree and Strand street in Cape Town CBD opens the Mother City’s latest luxury sports car showroom to coffee enthusiasts.

Dapper Coffee Co. is a vibrant in-house coffee shop and restaurant that shares premises with Club 9 and Dutchman’s Car Care Clinic, in a beautiful contemporary space that overlooks the bustle of Bree and Strand – think a bright and breezy dinging area with a hatch that opens onto the road, lots of wood, potted plants and oversized lightbulbs. Oh, and some of the sexiest vintage cars you’ve seen in your life.

The coffee shop and classic car dealership opened its doors in December 2015 and belongs to seasoned car collector and specialist Dirk Molsen, who started buying, restoring and selling cars at the tender age of 15. Dapper Coffee Co. sits slightly elevated above the showroom floor and is run by Dirk’s wife and son, Lauren and Alex Molsen.

THE IMPORTANT BITS

Where? Corner Bree and Strand Street. The CBD is always busy, and even more so over the festive season, so if you’re not keen to circle until you find parking and pay through your ears for the pleasure, rather take a taxi or an Uber. Alternatively, make Dapper Coffee Co. a pit stop on an urban hike through the city – always a treat!

When? Dapper Coffee Co.: Weekdays: 7am – 5pm | Saturday: 8am – 3pm | First Thursdays: 7am until late. Club9: Weekdays: 8am – 5pm | Saturday: 9am – 2:30pm. Closed on Sundays and public holidays.

Who? Great for a weekend brunch with some friends, a coffee date or a quick business meeting at a central location. Dapper is pet-friendly, so feel free to bring along the pooch. As for the kids – there are lots of shiny chrome surfaces that beg to be smudged and space can be limited during peak times, so toddlers might be hazardous; older children will enjoy the vibe. Free Wi-Fi is provided within reason and there are power outlets here and there, but Dapper Coffee Co. isn’t really a ‘settle in to work all day’ kind of spot.

What? The food is fresh and seasonal, with tasty lunchtime options like a seared butternut salad with udon noodles, cucumber, radish, fresh coriander and lime juice, chilli & lemongrass dressing; or a pretzel sandwich topped with thinly sliced beef, tomatoes and lashings of mayo. The coffee, a house blend from Tribe, is smooth and well-made, and served on beautiful wooden saucers. Treat yourself to an indulgent ice-cream iced coffee when it’s too warm to contemplate a hot beverage.

MUST TRY: The inventive breakfast brioche bun with a generous pork rasher, tasty home-made tomato sauce and eggs done the way you like ‘em, which also happens to be a proven hangover cure.
